All workers who worked with a formal contract in the previous year are entitled to receive Pis/Pasep. See here all the details on how to consult Pis/Pasep. Now it has become much easier to consult and even see if the amount has already been deposited. If you would like to check yours, you have come to the right place.
Now everything can be done on your cell phone, in very simple steps.
The Salary Allowance, known by the acronyms Pis/Pasep, consists of a type of bonus for workers, established by law, especially law nº 7,998/90.
It is a bonus paid every year to workers who worked with a formal contract in the previous year and is calculated based on the months worked, reaching the value of a current minimum wage.
The amount is transferred by Caixa Econômica Federal through the Ministry of Economy, following the Condefat calendar.
Consult Pis/Pasep: who is entitled to the allowance?
To be entitled to the benefit, the worker must meet certain requirements, only then is the worker eligible to receive the salary bonus.
The following are requirements for receiving Pis/Pasep:
-Be registered with Pis for at least five years, and also have worked with a formal contract for at least five years before being entitled to receive the allowance;
-Have as an average salary for the base year of calculation up to two current minimum wages;
-The worker who wishes to have access to the benefit withdrawal must have worked at least thirty consecutive days or not in the year used as the base year for calculation;
-Your data must be duly informed by the employer in Rais/Social.
This last requirement is important to mention because workers can often have their data filled out incorrectly, which can end up hindering their receipt of the bonus.
What is the value of the allowance?
The value of the bonus is calculated for each worker according to the period worked in the year used as a base. The minimum is that the worker has worked at least thirty days, which does not need to be consecutive, unless that is the case he or she is not even entitled to receive the benefit.
From thirty days onwards, the value is calculated based on the months that each worker worked. The calculation of the amount received by the worker was determined by law no. 13,134/15, in which each month worked corresponds to a part of twelve of the minimum wage, so having worked the twelve months of the base year of calculation, the worker receives a minimum wage.
Where to receive the allowance?
It is possible to receive your benefit through different means. Caixa recently launched the Caixa Tem application, where you can check your balance and also make transfers to your bank account.
It was also through the application that Emergency Aid was paid. After downloading the application, which is available for Android and iOS, you will need to complete a brief registration informing your personal data.
When registering, you will be able to easily check your Pis/Pasep balance. If you already have an account with Caixa Econômica, the allowance balance will automatically be sent to your Caixa account, without any type of request being required.
What to look for before installing
- Connect to your bank. The automatic connection saves you from typing, but requires authorization via open finance. It's important to understand what is being shared.
- Exporting your data. A good tool lets you export to a spreadsheet. If it doesn't, you're stuck with it.
- It works without internet. Manual note-taking apps work offline; those that sync with a database do not.
- Who is behind the app?. Confirm the institution responsible and whether it is authorized by the Central Bank. The name appears on the developer's page in the store.
What no app can do for you
Before installing, it's worth managing your expectations: there are things that no app in this category delivers.
- These apps are not a substitute for professional advice on complex debt, and no app has the power to renegotiate for you.
- Credit scores vary between credit bureaus and are not the only criterion a bank uses — no app 'increases your score' on its own.
- Promises of quick money, guaranteed income, or loans without credit checks are signs of fraud, not a reliable source of funding.
- They don't make your money grow on their own. They organize information; the decision and the outcome remain yours.
Common questions
Do I need to provide my CPF (Brazilian tax identification number)?
For checking credit information, yes. For tracking expenses, it shouldn't be necessary—be suspicious if it's required.
Can I use it for free?
Manual expense tracking is usually free. Automatic synchronization and detailed reports are typically included in the paid plan.
Is the premium version worth paying for?
It makes sense for those who have multiple accounts and want automatic synchronization. For simple budgeting, the free version is sufficient.
Does it work offline?
Manual note-taking works. Consultation and synchronization require an internet connection.
Can I increase my score?
Your credit score improves with a history of on-time payments, updated registration information, and balanced credit use. No app can do this through shortcuts.
Step-by-step to get started
- Activate spending alerts. Set a spending limit per category and let the app remind you. It works better than reviewing at the end of the month.
- Check your registration with the credit bureaus. The consultation is free and reveals debts you may not even remember, as well as correcting incorrect information.
- Start by logging one week. Before putting together a budget, write everything down for seven days. The diagnosis often reveals more about it than any spreadsheet can provide.
- Separate fixed from variable. Rent and subscriptions on one side, markets and leisure on the other. Only the latter group responds to quick adjustments.
Traps that catch almost everyone
- Believing in promises to clear your name or increase your credit score through shortcuts.
- Abandoning the registration in the second week; without consistency, the app is useless.
- Paying for a finance app subscription that costs more than it saves.
- Accepting a loan offered within the app without comparing the total cost.
The alternative that is already included in the system
The bank's own app usually provides expense categorization, statements by category, and credit card limits all in one place—without requiring you to share your data with anyone else. For those with a primary account, this is often sufficient.
The official consultation channels — and only those.
There are a large number of websites and apps that present themselves as PIS/PASEP consultation services, but they are not. The legitimate options are few and far between, and all are free.
- Digital Work Permit. Official app from the federal government, showing employment history, contracts, and the PIS number.
- gov.br portal. It brings together the services of the Ministry of Labor and Employment, including information regarding the salary bonus.
- Caixa Tem app and Caixa channels. For private sector workers who receive their salaries through Caixa.
- Bank of Brazil's channels. For public employees, whose pay is made there.
- FGTS app. Regarding the guarantee fund, that's a separate matter from the bonus.
- Telephone 158, the worker's service center, and 111 for Caixa.
A warning that's worth more than any instruction: none of these channels charge a consultation fee, ask for payment to "release" funds, request data via messaging app, or require you to download an app through a received link. Any offer of this type is a scam. Download apps only from official stores, checking the developer's name, and never give your gov.br password to third parties.
PIS, PASEP, bonus and FGTS: four different things
Much of the confusion stems from treating everything as "PIS money." They are distinct things:
- PIS/PASEP number. It's a registration, a worker identification number. It's not money. Today it appears integrated with the NIS (Social Identification Number) and the CPF (Brazilian Individual Taxpayer Registry) number in government systems.
- Salary bonus. The annual benefit, worth up to one minimum wage, is proportional to the months worked in the base year. This is what most people are looking for.
- Quotas from the former PIS/PASEP fund. Balances accumulated up to 1988, from a closed program. A distinct situation with its own rules.
- FGTS. Monthly deposit made by the employer into a linked account, with its own withdrawal rules. It is not related to the bonus.
Confusing these items leads to the wrong expectation. Checking your PIS number and not finding any amount to receive does not mean there was an error: it means that the number is registered, and the right to the benefit depends on other requirements.
How is the value calculated?
The salary bonus is not a fixed amount for everyone. It is proportional to the number of months worked with a formal employment contract in the base year considered.
The rule is straightforward: divide the current minimum wage by 12 and multiply by the number of months worked in the base year. Those who worked the entire year receive the full minimum wage; those who worked six months receive half; those who worked one month receive one-twelfth.
Two details that raise questions:
- Fraction of a month. A period of 15 days or more within a month is considered a full month for the calculation.
- Outdated base year. The bonus paid in one year refers to work done two years prior. Those who have recently started working will not receive it the following year.
The general requirements, as established by law, involve being enrolled in the program for at least five years, having worked with a formal employment contract during the base year, having received average remuneration within the established limit, and having the data correctly reported by the employer in the annual declaration.
When the consultation says you are not entitled
This is the most frustrating scenario, and it doesn't always mean the right doesn't exist. The most common causes are:
- The employer either did not provide the information or provided incorrect information. The basis for the bonus comes from the annual declaration submitted by the company. Data errors, omissions, or information submitted after the deadline will void the benefit. The correction is the employer's responsibility, and the employee must contact them.
- Average income above the limit. The bonus is intended for those who received up to the legally established ceiling in the base year.
- Less than five years of registration in the program.
- Duplicate registration. Workers with more than one PIS number face suspension until their situation is regularized.
- Divergent data Among the records, especially name and date of birth.
The way to resolve this is to check the employment records in your Digital Work Card, compare them with your actual situation, and, if there is a discrepancy, contact the company. If the employer does not correct the discrepancy, the next step is to contact the Ministry of Labor, and in-person assistance is available at regional offices.
Calendar, deadline, and the money that goes back to the Union.
The payment of the bonus follows an annual calendar, published by the Deliberative Council of the Worker's Support Fund. Historically, the order of payment is determined by the month of birth for private sector workers and by the registration number for public servants.
The biggest reason for financial loss is the deadline. The allowance is available until the end of the calendar period for that fiscal year. After the deadline, any unclaimed amount returns to the fund, and recovering it later requires a specific procedure, if possible.
Don't miss out:
- Check the calendar at the beginning of the year. and write down the date on your phone.
- Keep your account active. Those who have an account with the paying institution usually receive payments via automatic credit, which solves the problem.
- Check if the payment has gone through. Automatic credit to a rarely used account goes unnoticed.
- If the amount was not credited, There is the option of a digital social savings account and in-person withdrawal with identification.
- Update your registration information. Outdated addresses and phone numbers hinder communication.
One final piece of advice on digital security: the gov.br account has different levels of reliability, and access to financial services requires a higher level, obtained through biometric validation or internet banking from accredited banks. It's worth upgrading your account level and activating two-step verification — the same account provides access to many services, and it's a frequent target for hacking attempts.
