Every driver knows the stretch of road where their foot unintentionally gets heavy: a long downhill stretch, an empty avenue, a highway at night. It's in these places that speed cameras are usually located—which is why navigation apps now show the location of each device, the speed limit at that point, and your current speed.

The information is no secret: the authority responsible for the road is required to disclose the list of operating speed cameras, including the location of fixed ones. The app retrieves this public data, cross-references it with your route, and warns you beforehand. The rest is up to you: look at the sign and slow down.

Why does the radar sometimes appear without any warning?

Signs reading “Electronic Enforcement” ceased to be mandatory in 2020. What the law guarantees is something else: each fixed speed camera must be accompanied by a sign indicating the maximum permitted speed, and no equipment can operate hidden. In other words, the limit is always indicated, even when the radar is not advertised.

Add to that the tolerance, which is already discounted: 7 km/h on roads with a speed limit of up to 100 km/h and 7% above that. On a 60 km/h road, the fine starts at 68 km/h (measured speed). It seems like a bit of a letdown, but the car's speedometer usually registers above the actual speed and consumes a good portion of it without warning.

Are these apps allowed?

Yes. They work with the location of fixed speed cameras, which is public information, and with the speed limit of the road. What is prohibited is the anti-radar device, the one that interferes with the equipment or the license plate reading — that is a very serious offense.

Do they work without internet?

The radar database is saved on your phone and continues to send offline alerts, provided you have updated it beforehand. However, alerts sent by other drivers in real time require an internet connection.

What is the radar's tolerance?

Seven kilometers per hour on roads with a speed limit of up to 100 km/h and 7% above that. The discount is automatic and serves to cover the equipment error, not to extend the limit.

Does the app warn you about speed bumps?

Notify us. It is a fixed speed reducer-type meter, with a known location, and is usually registered along with the other equipment on the track.
