Apps for studying electricity on your cell phone.

The demand for qualified electricians remains high, and many people are using their cell phones as a shortcut to enter the profession. It's worth starting with the honest point: No app makes you an electrician.. Working with electricity requires recognized training — a technical or professional qualification course with supervised practice — and, to work on or near energized installations, mandatory NR-10 training, which is only valid when issued by an authorized institution and is renewed periodically.

What these apps do, and do very well, is support those who are studying and streamline the daily work of those already working in the field. They include sizing calculators, wire and circuit breaker tables, circuit simulators for safe practice, and affordable reference materials. We've compiled five options available on Google Play—four free and one paid—with links to each app's official page, and we explain where each tool truly helps.

Apps for studying electricity and supporting work.

The following apps are listed on Google Play and should only be installed from there — keep in mind that availability and price may vary by country and region, so check your device's app store before using any of them. Avoid installation files downloaded from random websites: in addition to the risk of viruses, these copies are not updated — and, in an electrical calculation app, an outdated table can lead to dangerous sizing errors.

Cálculos Elétricos

It is one of the most complete applications in its category, with dozens of calculators included: voltage drop, conductor cross-section, short-circuit current, power, power factor, unit conversion, and resistors in series or parallel. It also provides useful reference tables for field consultation.

For those who are learning, the benefit is seeing the completed calculation and understanding which variables change the result. For professionals, it's the agility of checking a calculation without opening the spreadsheet on the computer. The calculations follow international standards, so always check if the criteria match the Brazilian standard applicable to your service.

Mobile Electrician

Mobile Electrician brings together a large set of reference tools: resistor color codes, power and current calculations, cable sizing, motor wiring diagrams, and unit converters. It works offline, which is essential on construction sites without cell phone signal.

It's the kind of app that replaces the experienced electrician's notebook. The interface isn't pretty, but it's organized by category and quickly answers the most common questions about the job, especially those that come up during an installation.

Electrodoc

Focused on electronics and basic electricity, Electrodoc offers calculators for resistors, capacitors, inductors, voltage dividers, Ohm's law, and pinouts of common components and connectors. It's a practical reference for those starting to understand circuits.

It is very helpful during the study phase, when concepts are still being assimilated and it is necessary to check each calculation. For building installations, it is complementary and does not replace an application focused on sizing residential circuits.

Elétrica Residencial

Portuguese-language app focused on residential installations: wiring diagrams for single, parallel, and intermediate switches, sockets, lamps, doorbells, and distribution panels, as well as guidance on sizing wires and circuit breakers for domestic use.

This is the closest thing to what's commonly asked of someone starting out in this field in Brazil, with familiar terminology and standards. One important point: this is the only paid app on the list, and the price is shown on the Google Play page before installation. It serves as a reference and study resource—and it's worth remembering that any real intervention should be done with the circuit de-energized and by a qualified person.

Residential Electrical

Android

Jelc.Simulador: Circuitos

This simulator allows you to assemble circuits on the screen and observe the behavior of the current, the activation of lamps, and the effect of each component. Making mistakes in the simulator doesn't cost anything—and that's precisely the educational value of the tool.

It is especially useful for mastering the logic of commands and connections before tackling a real circuit. A simulator, however, does not reproduce real-world conditions: tight connections, overheating, aged insulation, and improvised installations remain the subject of supervised practice.

The real path to working as an electrician.

The most common path begins with a vocational qualification course in building or residential electrical installation, with a workload that usually varies from 160 to 200 hours, a good portion of which is spent in a laboratory. Institutions within the "Sistema S" (a Brazilian system of vocational training institutions), state technical schools, and municipal training centers offer these courses, often free or subsidized. Those who want to go further can pursue a technical course in electrotechnics.

On top of that comes NR-10, the safety standard for electrical installations and services. The basic course is 40 hours long and is required for anyone working with this risk; there is periodic retraining and a supplementary module for high voltage. Without this training, the professional is not qualified to work — and no amount of video or app can replace the certificate issued by an accredited institution.

Security is not a detail.

Electric shock and arc flash cause serious accidents and deaths every year in the country, many of them involving untrained people tampering with electrical panels. If you are studying, practice on a training bench, with a de-energized circuit and under the guidance of a qualified person. Before any intervention, turn off the circuit breaker, confirm the absence of voltage with a detector or multimeter, and mark the panel.

There are also clear scope limits: power input, meter, and utility grid are the responsibility of the distributor, and tampering with these points is prohibited. Large building installations require an electrical design signed by a professional registered with the relevant council. Knowing these limits is as much a part of the job as knowing how to size a cable.

Common questions

Consigo virar eletricista só com aplicativo?

No. Apps are study aids and reference tools. Professional practice depends on a recognized course, supervised practice, and, for services involving electrical hazards, valid NR-10 training.

Esses aplicativos são gratuitos?

Four of the five can be installed for free; some display ads or offer a paid version with extra features. The exception is Elétrica Residencial, which is a paid app. Price, ads, and in-app purchases always appear on the store's page before installation.

Funcionam sem internet?

Calculators and spreadsheets usually work offline, which is essential on a construction site. However, video content and spreadsheet updates require an internet connection.

Conclusion

The apps on this list handle calculations, consultations, and training very well: Electrical Calculations and Mobile Electrician for sizing and checking, Electrodoc for basic electronics, Residential Electrical (the only paid one) for everyday Brazilian schematics, and the circuit simulator for risk-free practice.

Use them as a complement, not as a shortcut. Combined with a qualification course, NR-10 certification, and practice supervised by an experienced professional, they significantly accelerate learning. It is this combination—and not an isolated application—that leads someone to work with electricity safely and reliably.
